For Maths Day, the whole school explored the story 365 Penguins, where a new penguin arrives every day for a whole year. As the penguins begin to pile up, the family in the story faces all sorts of mathematical challenges, which made it a perfect starting point for our own investigations.
In Willow Class, pupils looked at how many penguins would have appeared at different times of the year and experimented with different ways to arrange and group them. They also planned a Penguin Parade, measured the perimeters of icy islands, and enjoyed a game of Penguin Bowling, using a range of number strategies to create different totals.
It was a wonderful day filled with problem solving, teamwork and plenty of mathematical thinking, and the children had a great time from start to finish.
