Magistrates visit
In PHSE, this week we had two magistrates visit us. We learnt about the role of a magistrate, how magistrates courts work and how magistrates decide a sentence. We had great fun working in groups deciding our own sentences for different scenarios using the sentencing guidelines. Pupils had to justify their choice of sentence considering what was the aim and purpose. We got to ask lots of questions and were surprised to learn magistrates don't get paid!
